3 Common Appliance Issues (And How to Fix Them)

There are some common issues that are easy to resolve. And many home owners feel comfortable tackling it themselves. Here are a few things you can check when your appliances stop working.

Gas Stove Won't Light

One of the most common reasons a gas burner won’t light is because there’s food debris or grease buildup blocking the flow of gas to the igniter. How can you fix it? Here are three easy steps.

  1. Disassembly. Lift up the grate and burner cap. Then remove the burner base (on most models this will lift off easily. But if not, you’ll need to take out a couple screws).
  2. Cleaning. Wash all the parts you’ve removed and the surrounding surfaces on the stovetop. The burner base might require a good soak and a sturdy brush to wash away the baked on debris. And you might need a toothpick to empty the small burner holes.
  3. Reassembly. Reattach the burner base and put the grate and burner cap back in place.

Washer is Vibrating

Does your washing machine vibrate loudly or move out of place while cleaning a load? The most common causes are an unbalanced load or the machine isn’t level. If the load is unbalanced, pause the load, redistribute the weight, and restart it. Use a torpedo level or an app on your phone to check if the washer is level. If not, adjust the feet of the washer until it’s completely level. If the feet aren’t adjustable, you may need to add a thin piece of plywood underneath one or two feet.

Dishwasher Won't Drain

Most households run their dishwasher almost every day. So a dishwasher that won’t drain is a pretty big problem. The most common cause we’ve found is a clogged drain basket. To access your drain basket, remove the bottom rack of your dishwasher. Your drain basket should resemble a filter or grate. Older models are often secured with one or two screws. But more recent models should be easy to remove without tools. Clean the basket itself and any debris you find underneath it. Then reinstall it and give your dishwasher a test run.

If these methods don’t resolve the issue or you don’t feel comfortable doing these steps on your own, it’s time to reach out to a technician. Call our experienced technicians to investigate and fix your home appliances!

Why We Love New Hudson MI

We’ve lived, worked, and volunteered in many different areas. But, at the end of the day, Michigan is home. We grew up here, our families are here, and now our business is too. We love hiking, biking, ice skating, and basically anything else you can do outdoors. So here are a few of the place that we love that are close to home.

  • The Huron Valley Trail is a nice place to go for a relaxing bike ride in New Hudson. It used to be a railroad track and now it’s a fully paved trail. It’s about 10.5 miles long. You might even see some wild turkeys wandering around.
  • If you want to go camping, but you don’t want to rough it Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley is a great spot. Kids love their playground and swimming in the lake. It’s a good choice for a family getaway.
  • If you like to golf but you don’t want to pay through the nose to do it, you might want to try the Riverbank Golf Club in New Hudson, Michigan. It’s well-maintained with a much more affordable price tag than most golf courses.
